Blackjack Rules for Beginners

The game of blackjack is one of the most popular card games around.  It is played in casinos around the globe by literally millions of people.  If you are new to the game and don’t know how to play blackjack it can be a little bit overwhelming getting started.  However, blackjack rules are actually quite easy to learn.

The game of blackjack is played one on one against a dealer.  The objective of the game is to achieve a hand of cards that is of a higher value than the dealer’s hand without breaking a total of 21.  Hand values are determined by adding the cards together.  According to blackjack rules face cards are worth 10 points each; numbered cards are worth 1 point or 11 points depending on the other cards in the hand; and numbered cards are worth their face value.

A game of blackjack begins with the dealer giving each player 2 cards, face up on the table.  The dealer takes 2 cards as well, placing one face up and the other face down.  Based on the cards that are dealt, players must decide to “stay” with their initial 2-card hand or increase the value of their hand by asking the dealer to “hit” them with additional cards.  At the end of the game the dealer reveals his hand.  Players that beat the dealer are paid and players that do not beat the dealer lose their bets.

Now that you understand how to play blackjack you can practice with blackjack online.
